💫 What is unGOD Magica?

unGOD Magica is a tabletop RPG about hidden magic practitioners who must balance their mundane lives with their secret supernatural existence. For most of the year, they are students, nurses, service workers, and outcasts. But beneath that surface, they are heirs to ancient bloodlines, carriers of forbidden knowledge, and participants in a three-month pilgrimage toward Walpurgisnacht.

On that one night, the Moon's influence erases mundane memory of magic. The Veil falls. Arcane conflict becomes possible. And one practitioner who prevails will have their Wish granted.

Core Themes:

  • Secrecy is Survival: Magic must remain hidden outside Walpurgisnacht. The Veil is a shared resource that measures your group's exposure.
  • Mundane Life Matters: Your day job, relationships, and cover identity affect the story mechanically. You are not just a wizard, you are also your Background.
  • Magic is Modular: Build your own spellcasting style from 18 Practices. Choose your techniques, define your Tags, and escalate power through Risk Classes.
  • Risk is Rewarded: Push harder, spend more Stress, take bigger consequences. The momentum loop rewards calculated risk-taking.
  • Legacy Shapes You: Your Bloodline has expectations. Uphold or defy them to earn experience.

Dual Lives

Every character has a mundane Background (Student, Service Worker, Outcast, etc.) that provides access, pressure, and resources. Your mundane life is not just flavor, it is mechanically relevant to survival and infiltration.

The Veil

A shared resource representing secrecy. When magic is witnessed by mundanes, the Veil drops. When it hits zero, the masquerade breaks and consequences follow. Protecting the Veil is a group responsibility.

Bloodlines

Descend from legendary practitioners like Merlin, Crowley, or Tesla. Each Bloodline grants Affinity Practices, a Signature Effect, and a Doctrine that shapes how you earn XP. Legacy pressures your choices.

Modular Magic

Choose 4 Practices from 18 schools (Kinetics, Binding, Prediction, Materia Sciences, etc.). Build spells with escalating Tags from RC-0 to RC-4. Define your style, upgrade your power, and pay the Stress cost.

🎨 Character Creation

Creating a character in unGOD Magica is about defining your place in the secret magical world and the mundane one. You will choose your ancestral Bloodline, your mundane Background, your approach to conflict (your Class), and your magical specializations.

The Seven Steps:

  • Choose Your Bloodline: Merlin, Nostradamus, Galileo, Houdini, Disney, Paracelsus, Tesla, Crowley, or Rasputin. Your bloodline defines your Affinity Practices, your Signature Effect, and the Doctrine that grants you XP.
  • Define Your Mundane Lives: Select 1 Primary and 1 Secondary Background. These provide access to spaces, recurring pressure, and limited-use Resources.
  • Choose Your Class: The Heir, The Striver, The Keeper, The Veilwalker, The Duelist, The Oracle, The Mediator, or The Transgressor. Classes define your approach to power and conflict.
  • Assign Stats: Distribute Metre scores (Motorics, Anatomics, Psysionics, Cognetics) and Limit points to define your mechanical competencies.
  • Select Your Practices: Choose 4 magical Practices from 18 schools. Learn 2 starting spells (one RC-0, one RC-1).
  • Equip Assets: Choose 3 starting Assets (tools you are willing to break to survive). Each has 1 Tag that can be leveraged for +1 Dice Power.
  • Final Numbers: Record your Stress Track (9), Wound Slots (5), Veil (6), and XP Bank (0).

You are now ready for the Pilgrimage.

🚀 Development Status

unGOD Magica is fresh from a game jam and currently in early playtesting. The current version is Playtest v0.7, which includes core resolution mechanics, structured conflict procedures, character creation, the Veil system, 18 Bloodlines (Arcana Familias), 8 Classes, 18 Practices, and 99 spells.
