Three types of tokens flow through play, creating the game's dramatic economy.

Energy Points

Energy Points are the individual currency of Tamers. You gain them by invoking your negative Tags—leaning into your flaws and complications to fuel your power.

Energy Points can be spent to:

  • Switch cards (1 EP): Swap a card in your play area with one from your deck
  • Evolve a card (2 EP): Overlay a higher-Rank card onto a lower-Rank card
  • Nudge a die (1 EP): After rolling, change one die's result by 1 (a 4 becomes a 3 or 5)

Positive Tokens

Positive Tokens are rare and powerful. They're gained when you roll a Double Infinite (two or more 8s on a single roll).

Positive Tokens are spent collectively by the party to perform Team Attacks: coordinated actions where multiple characters combine their dice pools into a single, massive roll. They can also be spent on Overpowered Rolls and to invoke Ally Cards.

Negative Tokens

Negative Tokens belong to the Facilitator—and they're the heartbeat of dramatic tension.

The Facilitator gains Negative Tokens when:

  • A player rolls 0 Power on an action (1 token)
  • A player rolls negative Power on an action (2 tokens)
  • Certain enemy Gimmicks trigger
  • Other specific circumstances defined by abilities

Crucially, Negative Tokens do not reset between sessions. They accumulate, creating a growing sense of dread. When the Facilitator spends Negative Tokens, bad things happen: enemies power up to new forms, hidden weapons are revealed, luck turns against the protagonists. The more tokens spent, the more dramatic the reversal.
