What Are Upgrades and Inherits?

While Tags describe who your character is, Upgrades and Inherits are the special abilities that make each card mechanically distinct.

Inherits: Your Passive Abilities

Every card has one Inherit: a passive ability determined by its Type. Inherits are always active as long as the card is in play and trigger automatically when their conditions are met.

Stacking Inherits Through Evolution

When you Evolve a card, you keep the lower card's Inherit visible and active. This means Evolved cards benefit from multiple passive abilities simultaneously.

Upgrades: Your Active Abilities

Upgrades are active abilities on the back of each card. Which Upgrades are available depends on the card's Category (Netghost, Tamer, Skill, or Power). Unlike Inherits, Upgrades require conscious activation and often cost resources.

Unlocking Upgrades as Cards Advance

As you play, Tags on your cards accumulate Potential. During the Closure Round at the end of each session, you roll to convert Potential into experience points. When a card's six-segment experience track fills, the card advances, and you can unlock a new Upgrade, add or modify Tags, or create an Evolution card.
