What Are Netghost Cards?
Your Netghost card represents your supernatural partnerāthe digital entity that emerged from the Sea of Data to bond with you. This is more than just a companion card; it's the other half of your soul link, the being who fights alongside you, grows with you, and shares in your journey.
Every player has exactly one Netghost card, built on one of seven Types. This card belongs to the Ghost Aspect, representing the supernatural and the otherworldly.
Unlike other cards, when your Netghost card evolves, it represents a physical transformation in the fiction. Your partner's Shell changes formāgrowing larger, sprouting wings, shifting shape to channel more power. The Netghost themselves doesn't change (same personality, same memories), but their body adapts to match your growing bond.

Who They Are

Buddy-type Netghosts excel at coordinated actions and shared strengths. Your challenge is that shared weaknesses are exploitable by enemies, and being so similar can create friction when you need different perspectives or approaches.

Who They Are
Your Netghost didn't emerge from the Sea of Data by accident. A Hero-type Netghost will never let you take the easy way out, never let you look away from suffering, never let you pretend someone else will handle it. They hold you to a higher standard because they hold themselves to an impossible one. When you fight alongside them, you feel like you could take on anything. When you disappoint them... you feel it too.
The Fantasy You're Playing
Hero is for players who want to partner with a legend made flesh. You're playing alongside someone who embodies heroic ideals, who pushes you to be better, who makes you believe you can achieve the impossible. This is the fantasy of having a champion as your partner.
How They Work in Play
Hero-type Netghosts excel at inspiring moments, standing against injustice, and embodying legendary power. Once, your Netghost was something magnificent. In the Sea of Data, they were vast, powerful, a legend among legends. Then they answered your call, and emersion cost them almost everything. Their body is a fraction of what it was. Their powers are shadows of their former glory. They remember being moreāand so do you, through the bond you share.
This could break a lesser spirit. Instead, your Netghost chose you anyway, knowing the price. Now you're building something together, piece by piece. Every evolution feels like reclaiming lost ground. Every victory is proof that diminished doesn't mean defeated. The spark is still there. And sparks can grow into fires.
The Fantasy You're Playing
Kindling is for players who want to help their partner reclaim lost glory. You're playing a journey of recovery and growth, watching your Netghost slowly remember who they once wereāand discover who they can become. This is the fantasy of rebuilding something precious.
How They Work in Play
Kindling-type Netghosts start weaker but have tremendous potential for growth. Your Tags will often relate to echoes of former power, the frustration of limitations, and the patience required for recovery. You shine when every small victory feels hard-won, when progress matters.
Your challenge is managing frustration with current limitations while working toward recovery, and accepting that the journey takes time.

Who They Are
Most Netghosts lose tremendous power during emersion. Your Netghost... not so much. Their strength came through much more intact than expected, their abilities sharp and ready, their potential barely diminished. They're exceptional. They know it. And knowing it creates its own problems.
A Prodigy-type Netghost can do things other Netghosts struggle with, which makes them invaluableāand makes them difficult. They might not understand why others can't keep up. They might grow impatient with limitations they've never experienced. They might be lonely in ways they can't articulate, surrounded by peers who can't match them and a Tamer who sometimes feels more like a liability than a partner.
The Fantasy You're Playing
Prodigy is for players who want to partner with someone exceptional. You're playing the dynamic of bonding with someone more powerful than you, someone who chose you despite (or because of) the gap between your abilities. This is the fantasy of being chosen by greatness.
How They Work in Play
Prodigy-type Netghosts are mechanically powerful from the start. Your Tags will often relate to exceptional abilities, the difficulty of relating to "normal" beings, and what you offer that power alone can't provide. You shine when their overwhelming capability matters, but also when genuine connection proves more valuable than strength.
Your challenge is managing the power imbalance in your partnership and dealing with your Netghost's difficulty relating to those weaker than them.

Everything is worth investigating. Every experience is the first time. They haven't learned to be cynical, to expect disappointment, to protect themselves by caring less. This is exhausting. This is wonderful. You're not just their partner; you're their guide to a world they're seeing for the first time. What you teach themāabout kindness, about cruelty, about how things really workāwill shape who they become.

Innocent is for players who want to be both partner and guardian. You're playing the experience of introducing someone to the world, watching them discover joy and pain for the first time, and taking responsibility for who they become. This is the fantasy of nurturing wonder.
How They Work in Play
Innocent-type Netghosts bring curiosity, joy, and untainted perspective. Your Tags will often relate to their wonder at the world, what you're teaching them, and the purity of their reactions. You shine when seeing things through fresh eyes matters, when optimism cuts through cynicism.
Your challenge is protecting them from harsh truths while letting them grow, and accepting the responsibility of shaping who they'll become.

This devotion is absolute. It's also terrifying. How do you tell someone who loves you that they matter too? How do you convince a being born to protect that their life has value beyond what they guard? A Defender's love is a fortressābut sometimes you feel less like someone protected and more like something imprisoned.

Defender is for players who want unwavering protection and must grapple with what that means. You're playing the complex dynamic of being someone's entire reason for existing, of being both cherished and smothered. This is the fantasy of absolute devotionāand its complications.

They will absolutely make someone's day worse just to see what happensāand then be genuinely surprised when that person gets upset. You spend half your time apologizing for them and the other half trying not to laugh at what they've done. Having a Mischievous Netghost means your life is never boring. It also means you're never quite sure what you're going to wake up to.
The Fantasy You're Playing
Mischievous is for players who want chaos as their constant companion. You're playing the experience of partnering with someone who makes everything more interesting (and complicated), who keeps you on your toes, and who teaches you not to take things too seriously. This is the fantasy of controlled chaos.
How They Work in Play
Mischievous-type Netghosts excel at causing chaos, unexpected solutions, and keeping situations unpredictable. Your Tags will often relate to pranks they've pulled, ways they create mayhem, and the rare moments they actually behave. You shine when chaos is useful, when conventional approaches have failed.
Your challenge is managing the fallout from their mischief and knowing when you absolutely need them to be seriousāif that's even possible.

Creating Your Netghost Card
Once you've chosen your Netghost Type, use the Type Questionnaires in the playtest materials to develop your Tags. The questionnaires provide specific questions designed for each Type, helping you create a Netghost card that feels authentic and alive.
Your Netghost is your partner, your other half. Take time to consider their personality, appearance, and how your bond works. Think about what they look like at each evolution stageāhow do they change as they grow stronger? What stays the same?
