Introduction to Cards

"Every card is a story. Every Tag is a truth."

Anatomy of a Card

Each card contains:

  • Main Tag (Card Name): The defining Tag that also serves as the card's name.
  • Seven Positive Tag Slots: Tags that help you accomplish things.
  • Two Negative Tag Slots: Tags that create complications.
  • Six-Segment Experience Track: Marks progress toward leveling the card.
  • Card Level: The current level of this specific card.
  • Inherit Slot: The passive ability granted by this card's Type.
  • Five Upgrade Slots (on back): Active abilities that can be unlocked.
  • Potential/Broken Checkboxes: Next to each Tag and Upgrade.

Nascent Cards

When you first create a card, it begins as a Nascent Card. A Nascent Card starts with:

  • Its Main Tag
  • Two Positive Tags
  • One Negative Tag

Additional Positive Tags, Negative Tags, and Upgrades are unlocked by leveling up the card through experience.

Tags

Tags are the heart of the card system. They are short phrases that describe qualities, skills, relationships, or capabilities. When you take an action, you count the number of relevant tags from your four active cards to determine how many d8s you roll.

Tag Potential & Advancement

During play, Tags gain Potential when:

  • You roll 0 Power on an action using that Tag.
  • You roll a Double Infinite on an action using that Tag.

At the end of each session, during the Closure Round, you roll a d8 for each Tag with Potential. On a 5 or higher, the Potential converts into one Experience Point (EXP) for that card. When a card fills its experience track (6 EXP), it advances, allowing you to unlock new Upgrades or add/modify Tags.

Special Card Types

Evolution Cards

Netghost cards can evolve by overlaying higher-ranked cards on top of the base card. The ranks are Base, Super, Ultra, and Ascended. Evolution represents a temporary transformation, granting access to more powerful Tags and stacking passive abilities (Inherits).

Companion Cards

Companion cards represent significant NPCs who can be called upon for aid. They reside in a shared Ally Deck and are brought into play by spending a Positive Token.
